Tutorial
I would like to put up some tutorials and how-to’s of my own, but never get around to it for whatever reason. So here’s a very short list of what are probably the best you’ll find out there. Yes, there are thousands upon thousands of illustration tutorials to be found on the web, but 99.9% of them really don’t have anything to offer and should probably be avoided.
I’m sure there are likely quite a few tutorials I have yet to see that are immensely helpful and I encourage anyone that knows of any to please send those links my way. If they’re good, I’ll post them here. Same goes for any book or instructional DVDs.
The Art Center (Check out the other part of this blog also. There are interviews with a lot of different artists)
Niklas Jansson’s Tutorial Page (Niklas Jansson aka Prometheus: Does a fantastic job of describing how light affects color, among many other things.)
The Andrew Loomis Books (at a blog called PlacidChaos, run by an animator named Ryan.)
Some good info about drawing folds in clothing:
Famous Artists Course: Folds (Over at artist Mark Kennedy’s blog, Temple of the Seven Golden Camels. Thanks for finding this and making it available, Mark. Best explanation on the physics of drapery I’ve ever seen. Also, mark has some other good nuggets on his site, so be sure to browse.)
Lastly, Michael Mattesi, author of ‘Force Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators’, has a website with some very nice videos that more or less cover the same concepts in his books. I recommend this website (and the books), but to access the full videos there is a subscription fee, starting with $10 for a month of access. He does have plenty of sample videos on Youtube you can check out if you’re not sure about forking out a few bucks to join his site. http://www.drawingforce.com/
